Figure Painting or Drawing: A Foundation (In-person class)

Session 1: September 12 - October 31 ($380)
Session 2: November 14 - January 23 ($380)
Students can choose to work on drawing or oil painting from the live model.
Instructor may suggest to work on drawing or painting depends on the students’ progress. The class focuses on the structural landmarks of the human figure by combining the variations of form and plane. We will begin by simplifying light and shadow to create shapes with a step-by-step approach, which will then allow you to build the detail of the body and achieve alikeness with human expression. You will learn to create a three-dimensional effect with depth of space by understanding and controlling
your edges. All levels are welcome.

October 21 - 22
Saturday and Sunday: 10:00am-4:30pm
Price $350
Create a figure drawing with a focus on portraiture while working from the live model. You will learn to break down the process of drawing with a step-by-step approach learning how to simplify light and shadow into shapes in order for them to evolve into the details of facial structures, all while enabling you to achieve a likeness. Studying the essential structural landmarks of the human figure combined with the shifts of plane, you will have a better understanding of how light falls onto your subject and creates shadow shapes. Creating depth of space by controlling the edges will lead you to produce the magic of a 3-dimensional figure on a 2-dimensional picture plane. Beginning of the workshop, the class will review drawing materials, toning paper, then basic drawing elements. Then students will have a model in the same pose for the rest of the workshop to complete the drawing.

After the step-by-step approach demonstration by the instructor, students will start working on their own painting.
