Portrait Drawing (in person) February 27 - March 3, 2023 Monday - Friday 5 days 9am-12:30pm $465 Create a figure drawing with a focus on portraiture while working from the live model. You will learn to break down the process of drawing with a step-by-step approach learning how to simplify light and shadow into shapes in order for them to evolve into the details of facial structures, all while enabling you to achieve a likeness. Studying the essential structural landmarks of the human figure combined with the shifts of plane, you will have a better understanding of how light falls onto your subject and creates shadow shapes. Crafting depth of space by controlling your edges will lead you to produce the magic of a 3-dimensional figure on a 2-dimensional picture plane. Beginning of the workshop, the class will review drawing materials, toning paper, then basic drawing elements thoroughly on the first day, then from the second day, students will have a model in the same pose for the rest of the workshop to complete the drawing. |
Portrait Painting (in person) February 27 - March 3, 2023 Monday - Friday 5 days 1:30pm-5pm $465 Students will spend the first day reviewing the basic painting technique and working on simplifying the light and shadow shapes, find local colors, and learning to check the drawing issues in painting by using tools. From the second day, a step-by-step approach will be introduced to oil painting starting with a demonstration by instructor, then the students will work from the model and lay out the paint. The pose will be kept for the rest of the workshop to complete the painting. This class will provide confidence and the know how to start a painting before they begin a monthly class. |

Through sustained four week poses, students will be guided through the process of completing an accurate oil painting or drawing of the live model.
Students will learn to paint the structural landmarks of the human figure by combining the variations of form and plane. We will focus on the beginning stage by simplifying light and shadow to create shapes with a step- by-step approach, which will then allow you to build the detail of the body and achieve a likeness with human expression. You will learn to create a three-dimensional effect with depth of space by understanding and controlling your edges. Students of all levels of experience are welcome.
